Mainly becauseI didn’t want to hold my friends backwhile I struggled up the hills, though they saidthey didn’t mind. Then I discovered another friendwas in the same boat, purely by chance when she“stole” my Strava QOM and we started exchangingtext messages to joke about it. We were the onlytwo women to have ridden that segment.Last weekend we finally went on a ridetogether and discovered that we were riding atexactly the same speed and energy level. It was aride that we had delayed for a long time because wethought we’d hold the other person back. While wewere pedalling, we also discovered that we both seeriding uphill as a necessary evil to get to the fundownhill trails, and we had similar riding styles.A totally random ride that turned out to beexactly what we needed. Though the ride alsoturned out to be much longer than we had plannedwhen we decided to explore some of the newertrails in our local network. While we had plannedon riding for an hour, we ended up riding a total ofthree hours. And neither of us minded, aside fromthe hunger that started to set in near the end. Afterall, it was a pre-dinner ride! But now I’m left wondering, how many otherrides had I put off that would’ve been just what Ineeded?Teresa EdgarPublisherMountain Bike for HerPO Box 3293Courtenay, BCV9N 5N3CANADAinfo@mtb4her.comPRINTED IN CANADAF RHERP. 4MTB4HER- SUMMER 2016MOUNTAINBIKECONTRIBUTORSDanielleBakerJaclynDelacroixCécileGambinDanielle is a writer and photographerwho enjoys long walks in the rain, riding her bike, and shots of tequila.Growing up without electricity orrunning water helped her to find a greatappreciation for all things in natureand, eventually, led to her love ofmountain biking and fear of whales.Jaclyn is a Professional MountainBike Coach, Internationally CertifiedPersonal Trainer, and owner of OzmosisTraining.
